Born in China, grow up in China, currently in China. I am 100% Chinese.

I am one of the new Shanghainese who are originally from other place in China other than Shanghai but currently living and working in Shanghai.

Having been living in Shanghai for six years, I gradually become one of the new Shanghainese from a complete outsider of Shanghai.

From the hectic start to a normal and routine now, I am a tiny element of this huge and dynamic city. No matter you are a new comer in Shanghai, or like myself, a new Shanghainese, or a person never been to Shanghai, or an original Shanghainese, I believe you will be/are/were there experiencing what I felt/feeling before and now.

So here I am sharing with you my knowledge, experience, and travel guide about Shanghai.

I am also happy to take questions about Shanghai and listen to your myShanghai because Shanghai does offer us a lot to share.

What’s more about Shanghai, let’s start from the Bund - west bank of Huangpu river in Shanghai and one of famous sightseeing spot in Shanghai.

I live in USA and will visit Shanghai as a tourist for 5 days in April.
Which hotel would you recommend - Hilton Shanghai or Central View Suites? I want a hotel which has better service & rooms and is walking distance to some sight seeing and shopping.

I want to take day trip to Huangzhou and also another day trip to Suzhou. How to go there? Can you recommend a tourist bus/guide company? Besides Suzhou and Huangzhou, is there any other historical town near Shanghai that should be visited?

    Thanks

    Hi Surinder,

    Welcome to Shanghai!

Regarding your question about the hotel, the two hotels (Hilton and Central View Suites) are both good choice, very central location, close to the main shopping street, good room and services. Other choices may include some international chain hotels near the Bund.

You can take trains to Hangzhou and Suzhou (the bulletin trains). About 1 hour to Hangzhou and 30 minutes to Suzhou from Shanghai. Please note there are two train stations in Shanghai:

    - Shanghai Railway Station (Head to Suzhou)
    - South Shanghai Railway Station (Head to Hangzhou)

I am really sorry that i couldn’t recommend any tourist bus/guide company, because first of all I am not working in this industry and I personally haven’t used any of this services. But the hotels you stay can provide loads of this information.

Besides Hangzhou and Suzhou, other cities you can go is Nanjing, very historical. Or some water towns if you are interested, such as Zhou Zhuang, Wu Zhen or Tongli.

    Enjoy your time!

Which dorm is nearest to the Shanghai expo? Is the transportation facility is convenience to reach all the attraction of Shanghai and Shanghai expo?

    Thanks much for your reply.

    Regards, Tiffany

  5. Hoo says:

Tiffany, here is one link for your reference: Smallest Hostel in Shanghai . I guess location is around downtown area and is easy for you to access Shanghai Expo and other attractions. Later, I will write one more post to talk about budget hotels which prices start from 100 to 200 RMB per night. Hope it will help more people when staying in Shanghai.

I know China is famous for its relaxing and medical massages, where would it be a good place to go to when in Shangai?

  7. Hoo says:

Do you mean traditional Chinese massages? If so, green massage near Xintiandi is one you could think about.
