If you came to Shanghai 3 years ago, you might have been to the Xiangyang Market which was famous for gifts, clothing etc shopping in Shanghai. The Xiangyang market was specially well known for foreigners because it had all kinds of fake stuffs including shoes, clothes, pants, watches etc. In 2006, the Xiangyang market disappeared because of the new city planning. Visitors and tourists were a bit lost and had no idea where to find those places they can bargain for some low price stuffs.

I heard the previous vendors of Xiangyang market then relocated themselves to various places, such as Qipu Road, and Fenshine market etc.. Last weekend, I happened to passed the Metro station Shanghai Science and Technology Museum at Line 2 and found a Pudong version of Xiangyang market underground.

If you exit from the ticket checker, you will see four main entrances of A.P Plaza (also called Yatai Xinyang Fashion & Gift Market). Entering from any of them will lead you to a huge maze which is full of everything. I had a bit walk around and found the huge market is more than Xiangyang market. In addition of selling all the products, it also has a tailor made section where you can order any clothes customised for you and a jewelry/pearl section. Interestingly majority of the customers are foreigners and all the vendors there can speak English.

Of course it is a bargain place. So you must bargain hard to make sure you won’t be ripped off. I asked two vendors about the price of a Dockers male Kahki pant. One said 160RMB and the other said 180RMB. But for me only below 80RMB is acceptable.

There are some cafe, bistros in the market as well. So if you are tired, you can always take a rest. Just one reminder, it is huge, make sure you don’t get lost and do not make any rush decision because there are plenty sellers there.

Transportation is convenient. Line 2, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum Station. Then you are there!
