Question from Pricillia:
Are Shanxi and Shanghai same place?
Answer by Hoo:
No, they are not same place.
By Chinese pinyin (a spelling in English letters) rather than Chinese characters, Shanxi means two places. One is where Xi’an and Terracotta Warriors Museum are located, while the other is famous for its vinegar and Daoxiao noodle (prepared by scraping a dough into strips with a blade and putting them into boiling water), and its capital city is Taiyuan.
Both are provincial name in China, pronunciation is almost similar to foreigner, but characters are totally different. So when you refer to Shanxi province, you’d better make sure which Shanxi you really mean, especially when you are going to travel.
Shanghai is an international city where is on the mouth of Yangtze River into East Sea of China.
From map below, you will know it will take almost two hours to fly to Shanxi from Shanghai.
