I will study at Ningbo Nottingham University from this September. Now I am starting to prepare everything, it’s really a mess! I consulted some travel agencies in Birmingham and found I probably will land in Shanghai Pudong International Airport first and then I need to travel to Ningbo which is a city in Zhejiang province. I really don’t have any idea how to get there? Could you please give me some advice on this?

Unfortunately there is no bus directly from Shanghai Pudong International airport to Ningbo. But there are trains, coaches, flights from Shanghai to Ningbo. So don’t worry, you will be Okay.

Currently there is only one direct flight from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport to Ningbo. So I wouldn’t recommend you to take flight from Shanghai to Ningbo.

To take coaches or trains, you need to go to South Shanghai Railway Station or South Shanghai Coach Station. Luckily these two stations are next to each other. To get there, you may take either taxi or shuttle bus from Shanghai International airport. The journey normally takes about 1 hour. If you take the airport shuttle bus, take Line 7, it is a non-stop bus. Taxi costs you about 160RMB and the shuttles bus costs only 20RMB.

The train from South Shanghai Railyway Station to Ningbo takes about 4 hours and the price is about 80RMB for a soft seat. Time schedule as below:
T7769  Departure time: 11:10
T7793  Departure time: 11:21
T7795 Departure time: 14:31
T7797 Departure time: 19:45

If you want to take the train, do ask someone in Shanghai to buy the train ticket for you in advance as sometimes train tickets could be sold out.

I personally will suggest you to take coaches from Shanghai to Ningbo. The coach only takes about 2.5 hours and costs about 90RMB. The coach runs frequently from Shanghai to Ningbo every 15 - 20 minutes. The last coach departures at 20:00.
