An expat friend of mine was stopped by check-out counter at Suzhou train station last week. He throwed away his ticket on the train, and couldn’t pass the final check-up at Suzhou railway station. After several rounds of back and forth explanation with staff of Suzhou rails, he had to pay his train ticket again and cleared his check-out at train station.
Then when you travel in China by train, do keep your ticket till final check-up at your destination.
In China, passengers usually needs at least 4 times check-up before ending up a travel by train. When you step in train station where you leave, you need to show your ticket to staff at check-in counter, and get your ticket punched. Then before you step on the wagon where you supposed to find your seat or sleeper, you are required to show once again. On the way to your destination, you need to show your ticket again and that is called check-up on train. At the end, you will pass the final check-up at check-out counter of train station, which is your destination, as your ticket has approved to be valid.
So rules of check-up are some different than other countries, but do remember to keep your ticket all the way to destination in China.
