There are more than 10 taxi companies running in Shanghai. However, at downtown of Shanghai, top 5 are used most by passengers.
Personally, I always think Dazhong is my first choice. So when you stay in Shanghai, try to ride top 5 as possible as you could for quality service.
However, if going outside of downtown, such as satellite cities of Shanghai, you may not have many choices about taxis from top 5. Then try to ride taxis regulated by local districts, for example, Nanhui, MinHang, and Baoshan taxi company etc.
Top 5 in Shanghai are: Dazhong, Qiangsheng, Bashi, Haibo, Jinjiang.
