Live TV broadcasting on the Shanghai Metro was officially launched on July 6,2009.
According to project plan, all the 1,500 LCD screens at station platforms and 5,700 screens on trains will be connected to the TV network by the end of year, which will feed live news program from local TV stations as well as Metro operation information center.
Generally, the screens will broadcast economic news, weather reports, updates on major local news and live traffic information. Is it really helpful for commuters to catch their news on the boring Metro time?
Actually, now Shanghai Metro has screens installed on the trains, but programs shown on the screens are always entertainment news, travel photos, and some movie preview. I noticed most people didn’t pay much attention because they could not hear any voice and screens are just dumb terminals. So I am not sure how they solve background noises when train is running. However, I believe handy information to commuters , such as weather report etc., will catch more eyes when commuting.
In most time, I found people reading something from their gadgets or a free newspaper called Metro Express. This is a real war among digital products with small screen and big screen.
