Today Metro Line 2 got stuck in rush hour, and incredible crowd stopped at most stations of Line 2. The incident is a serious stuck of Line 2 that didn’t happen for a long, long time.
It seems staff at Metro didn’t handle well at emergency. Metro broadcasted again and again to persuade passengers to switch to other transportation tools rather than stick to Metro. But a large portion of passengers still tried to wait Metro been restored even they don’t know when.
I don’t think Metro has a well-established emergency plan to guide people using other transportation tools. And I believe most passengers don’t know which routes they should take to reach their destination if Metro got stuck. That is why we still could see most passengers are not likely to leave Metro today even some of them feel desperate. Metro has already become the major way of their daily in and out. My suggestion is Metro should publish a bus traffic guide around each Metro station, especially hub ones. With guide, passengers will know which bus and routes they will take to get their own destination. Otherwise, next time nothing would be changed no matter how loud in broadcasting.
By the way, today’s broadcasting was roughly carried on by a male staff rather than by a lady staff. Definitely this is not a best practice when people feel anxiety or uncertainty. And there is no any English announcement as well, I think this doesn’t match Shanghai as an international megacity. Shanghai needs more effort on better city, better life, isn’t it?
