As in China, I was told again and again by many people about native Shanghaiese. Basically, comments are pretty same. I generalize a few here, do you agree by your own experience when living in this city? I think it is something interesting though there have some changes to native Shanghaiese and comments may not be correct at all now. However sometimes we couldn’t change people’s stereotype perception as quick as we want.
Native Shanghainese, in general, are known in china as “frugal not generous”, and they are very calculative about everything involving in money. Money is even the corner stone to everything within family.
Even though native Shanghaiese are more westernized and fashion, and they are very un-wasteful. And they behave well in the public.
Attitude of native Shanghaiese is generally commented as arrogance and superior to people from the rest part of China. But it may not true now as new Shanghaiese have great influence on city as well.
In a typical native shanghaiese family, wife is dominant on everything, and husband stays at kitchen to prepare foods for the whole family.
Native Shanghaiese living in Puxi think highly than native Shanghaiese in Pudong because Pudong was just countryside.
That’s all. Do you think so or you have more to comment?
But Shanghai is changing now and becoming a more beautiful place where native and new Shanghaiese live in a harmony way for better life and better city.
