Jack, one of my customers flew to Shanghai from London for an important meeting. Because his flight landed much earlier than expected, he chose to go to the hotel counter (the hotel he will stay in Shanghai) inside Pudong Airport for a Limo.
No problem, everything was fine, he got the service. He arrived at the hotel and paid 500RMB to the driver and got the receipt UNTIL…
When he checked out, he asked the staff if the hotel could include the limo cost in the same bill with the room charge and showed the staff the receipt.
After checking the receipt, the staff regretted to tell him that the receipt was definitely a fake one and they couldn’t do what he asked.
Jack was so surprised and emphasised again that he did go to the counter the hotel set up inside Pudong airport, how could he get something fake.
After long time arguing, Jack didn’t get any proper answer for this due to lack of evidence.
After I listened to the whole story, one possible explanation could be:
The hotel staff inside Pudong Airport might have been bribed by some illegal car drivers. So whenever there is a customer coming to the counter asking for limo service, the hotel staff will refer this to the illegal car driver instead of hotel car. And the hotel staff can get commission by doing this from the illegal car driver.
This would be hard to be discovered by both hotels and customers, because most of the customers will pay the driver separately and will have no connection with the hotel at all. Even this is discovered by the hotel and the customer, the result could be the same like the one Jack had, no proper explanation as no evidence.
But this will cause a big trouble if there is an accident.
Regarding this issue, I phoned the hotel asking proper reply and solution.
Disappointingly, it is hard to track because of insufficient evidence. Then I asked the hotel what is the normal practice if a customer asks for limo service at the hotel counter inside Pudong Airport.
