In my mind, the true beauty of Shanghai is those small narrow streets full of life and history of normal people. That’s why Shanghai is a city you need to walk to explore its beauty.
Usually the streets in Shanghai were named after the places in China. For example, Nanjing Road was named after the capital city of Jiangsu Province. But there are some exceptions and Tian’ai Road is one of them.
What a sweet name! Directly translated, it is Sweet Love Road. How romantic!

Tian'ai Road - Sweet Love Road
Zhang Ye, a famous Chinese poet wrote a poem about Tian’ai Road and one sentence is very touching:
This is Tian’ai Road, please avoid if you are alone.
So Tian’ai Road is a place for people in love.

Tian'ai Road, all about love
I accidentally walked in Tian’ai Road today which is next to Lu Xun Park in Hongkou District. (Metro Line 3, Hongkou Stadium Station)
Interestingly the south part of Tian’ai Road is full of romance and arts (love poem wall, love sculpture etc), while the north part is all about grass root living.

There is a special post box in Tian’ai Road. All the letters sent from this post box will be stamped with special designed love stamp.

So this Chinese Valentine’s Day (26 Aug), why not come to Tian’ai Road and post a card to the one you love.
