Okay, many of us may already know this because these two festivals take place every year around National Holiday time.

2009 Shanghai Shopping Festival (12 Sep - 8 Oct)

2009 Shanghai Tourism Festival (12 Sept - 6 Oct)

To be honest, as a person who lives in Shanghai, I can’t really tell what are the differences those festivals made in Shanghai. Probably

- more sales & promotions in shops

- prettier city with all the festival deco and lights

- more special events organised

But during this time, we also have:

- more people everywhere (metro, bus, taxi, shops, and restaurants etc)

- traffic control so we suddenly feel lost in the city especially if you drive

- more impulse shopping means more spending, more regrets afterwards maybe?

OK, everything has two sides. Below are some photos I took today at Next Age Department Store in Pudong where the 2009 Shanghai Shopping Festival opening ceremony was hold this morning.  With all the lights, banners etc, I have to say: Wow, it is stunning!
