The Bund Still Closed during the National Holiday 2009 in Shanghai

This is a rather disappointing news for many people who are going to travel to Shanghai during their National Holiday (1-8 Oct).

The Bund authority has confirmed that the Bund will still be closed to the visitors during the National Holiday due to the renovation project construction. The main concern for this decision is safety issues as they are afraid that large crowds on the Bund which is still in the process of the construction will cause serious problems.

However the news reported that the Bund will be beautifully lighted up during the Golden Week.

Meanwhile, Peace Hotel, another hot spot Shanghai won’t open to the public either during National Holiday due to the refurbishment project.

So it seems that we can’t expect to see much on the Bund this National Holiday in Shanghai!

So what are the alternatives?

- Cross the river, see the Bund and all the lights from Pudong (east bank of the river)
- Take the river cruise
- Go to the high end hotels, bars or restaurants along the river (such as Hyatt on the Bund, 18 on the Bund, 3 on the Bund or M on the Bund) to have the best view of the river if you budget higher

P.S All the constructions are aimed to finish before the 2010 World Expo (1st May 2010). So another option is to visit the Bund during that time and hopefully we can see a much more glamorous new Bund!
