My stroll in Hongkou District Shanghai (Duolun Road)

Duolun Road is labeled as the cultural road in Hongkou. This was my first time in Duolun Road. I was expecting to see some fully refurbished old buildings and shops etc. What surprised me was some parts of Duolun Road looked well preserved while some were still in an old and bad condition.

So I call it the cultural road with less make-up.

The stone gate marks the entrance of Duolun Road.

There is a really pretty hostel in Duolun Road. It would be nice to stay there or just have a cup of coffee.

Look at their menu, all English. I am wondering if they target foreigners only?

This is the nice cosy cafe on its ground floor.

I believe this is a historical house where some famous people used to live…. but it is closed.

As a cultural road, there must be some antique shops in Duolun Road.

Interesting about Duolun Road is you see those pretty historical buildings and then you see those normal people living houses as well. They were hanging the clothes in the street.

Because of the rich heritage, Duolun road is also a hot spot for wedding photos.

At the other end of Duolun Road, there is a magnificent church. Wow!

After I exited from Duolun Road, I walked through the North Sichuan Road, which is the main shopping street in Hongkou District and like so many other shopping streets in Shanghai, full of people, shops and restaurants.

My personal review of Hongkou District:
Compared with other districts, Hongkou district is less well planned and developed. Many parts are still under construction. So I actually saw more bad conditioned buildings there. Sometimes it is hard to believe people are still living in those houses. But the not pretty side may truely reflect the facts of Shanghai.
