Beijing Roasted Duck…. Yummmmm…..

When the weather is getting colder, I am just craving for Beijing Roasted duck. The fat, the crispy skin and the rich sauce, mmm…… feel so good in the cold winter!

Quan Ju De is my favourite place to have Beijing roasted duk. I know there are some others in Shanghai, for example: Yan Yun Lou, which is the Shanghai brand for Beijing Roasted Duck and also very well known in Shanghai. But I just feel Quan Ju De is better.

The Quan Ju De I always go to in Shanghai is its Pudong Branch, which is inside the Purple Moutain Hotel near 96 Plaza. I know there is another one in Huaihai Road, but just too crowded all the time.

The restaurant is very traditional China, red, red, and the Duck! I saw this yellow duck in Beijing Quan Ju De as well….. guess it is Quan Ju De’s Mascot.

Besides duck, Quan Ju De is also doing Beijing Cuisine. But I tried very few, because every time, my only focus is always duck, duck, duck…….since the duck is very fat, just eating duck makes me full.

I ordered one duck today shared with my friend. The minimum portion is half. Actually half sometimes is okay for two girls.

The good thing about Beijing Roasted Duck is there is alwasy a show before the food on the plate. The chef will slice the duck in front your table.

OK, slicd duck on the plates!

Usually when you order a whole duck, the staff will suggest you to have ‘Yi Ya San Chi’, which means three different ways to eat the duck.

First, skin only!

The skin tastes very crispy. Actually I was suggested to eat it with some caster sugar. But I never tried… I just feel so sick…. all the fat with sugar….erh……But people tried said it was nice with sugar…… Mmmmmm…. I will consider next time.

Second: Meat only

The sliced meat comes from the duck breast part. So it is to taste the tenderness. Mmmm…. to be honest, I don’t feel very excited about it, because it is kind of bland.

Third: skin and meat

So for every piece, you got both skin and meat. This is the best part I love. Mixed texture, crispy skin, tender meat, juicy fat and with the secret sauce, wrapped in all the goodness!

This is the thin wrap. Traditionally it is made from flour, but now they offer varieties such as corn mixed flour etc. Personally I don’t think they make any difference, I still stick to the old tradition. Simple white wrap!

I just love the secret sauce. It is going so perfect with the duck…… It doesn’t only give the flavour but also get rid of the smelly taste of the meat. I always order extras…. can’t get enough!
