Although Metro Line 2 has been extended to Hongqiao Airport, today was my first time to try it.

Everything was fine till the train arrived at Songhong Road station. The train stopped and all the lights inside the train went off. All the passengers were so confused (I guess most of them like myself were heading to the airport). After a few seconds darkness and silence, I stepped out the train and asked a staff what happened? Technical problem?

The reply was the extended part (Songhong Road to Xujing Dong) was still in its pilot period. So not every train goes to Hongqiao airport. Some train terminate at Songhong Road Station. So if passengers who are going to Hongqiao Airport but are on the train which terminates at Songhong Road Station, they need to get off the train and wait for the train which does go to Hongqiao Airport.

Sadly currently there is no sign or signal can tell us which train is going to Hongqiao airport. So we can only tell the difference by watching the lights inside the train. If the lights go off when the train arrives at Songhong Road, so definately not going to Hongqiao Airport.

It was fairly easy to find the way to the terminal building after exit from the Metro station. The sign was clear and also there were some staff  for assistance.

I was told all the major domestic flights are now transferred to Terminal 2, only Spring and Autumn Airline (Chinese budget airline) and some international flights (most to Japan and Korea) are still operating at Terminal 1.

Please bear in mind Metro Line 2 only takes you to Terminal 2 of Hongqiao airport, which is about 10 - 15 minutes drive from Terminal 1. There are free shuttle bus running between these two terminals.

By the way,  time I counted is around 40min from city center of People’s Square to Hongqiao Airport.
