Most people have preference to take bulletin train from Shanghai to Hangzhou, but sometimes getting a CRH train ticket is not easy as you expect if you don’t book in advance.

But still need rush to Hangzhou for whatever reasons, then how?

Coach bus will be an alternative. Some may take taxi to Hangzhou, but it is other topic. For taxi fare or tips, check here for a rough idea.

1. In Shanghai, you could easily find long distance bus to Hangzhou every day. If taking bus, most visitors will go to South Shanghai Long Distance Bus Terminal which is seated at Southeast of South Shanghai Railway Station. (area map here)

Buses to Hangzhou are very frequent and depart about every 20 to 40 minutes. The distance from Shanghai to Hangzhou is about 206Km (about 129 miles), and journey time will be at least 2 hours on highway. Price is 68RMB (roughly $10).

Bus will stop at Hangzhou Passenger Transport Central Station (a.k.a. Jiubo Long Distance Coach Station or Hangzhou Central Coach Bus Station), which is about 14km (9 miles) away from Xihu (West Lake).

I took once before, and it is not bad at all. However, if bulletin train available, then still my top choice. And you?
