Shanghai railway station is the earliest train station in Shanghai, and was built in 1987. It is a main station in Shanghai, and located in Zhabei district of Shanghai. Most locals call it as new train station and xin ke zhan (新客站) in Chinese.
In all train stations of Shanghai, it is at the top to transport passengers each day. Travellers could buy tickets from here to board trains departing from the different train stations of Shanghai. Tickets to trains from Shanghai railway station are marked in “Shanghai”. Most trains leaving from station are high speed CRH bullet G trains, bullet D trains, and express trains such as K trains, T trains, or Z trains.
It has two squares which are south square and north square. Both squares are well linked by hallway after re-model. Passengers could board trains from both squares. In the north square of station, there is a biggest central long distance bus station in Shanghai where visitors could take bus to more than 100 cities in China.
Metro line 1,3,and 4 have stop at Shanghai railway station besides local city buses. Because it is located in the city center and easy to access by city transportation, most passengers still prefer to take trains at this station. Then it is most packed station as well.
