Moon Cake - more than a cake Sunday, September 27th, 2009

In recent days if you happen to pass some restaurants, hotels, bakeries or food stores, you probably will notice that many people are queueing there for a box/bag of something. Some small bakeries are even closed because the space is completely occupied by those boxes and the people who are collecting the something. Read More…

China National Day Military Parade Rehearsal Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Today I received a few photos of China National Day Military Parade rehearsal from Jian Guo, my photographer friend in Beijing. I was absolutely stunned!

An interesting thing about my friend’s name. Jianguo is a frequently used first name by Chinese, which means founding of a nation (Jian means founding, Guo means nation). If you come across a person whose first name is Jianguo, you can easily tell that he/she might be born in 1949 which is the year when People’s Republic of China was founded or born on the day of 1st Oct or in the month of October which is the National Day season. 10 September, Teachers’ Day or Gift Day? Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Today during the lunch time, the mums in my office were talking about what gifts they gave to their children’s teachers for the Teachers’ Day.

Then I suddenly realised that today is Teachers’ Day in China (10th September). (Sorry that I haven’t been to schools for ages).

Then I asked why the parents have to give gifts to the teachers because I think cards or flowers are enough to do the job. I remember that I wrote a card to my teachers when I was in school. Read More…
