The New Bund to Open on 28 March 2010

For those who are going to visit Shanghai soon, this would be a great news.

The Bund renovation project is right on schedule. The news said that the new Bund will be open to the public from 28th March.

Today when I was passing the bund, I saw the main construction has been completed, although the Bund area is still blocked for visitors.

If you take a taxi in Shanghai, you must see this notice on the back of the Driver’s seat:

‘If you need any help (translation etc), please call 962288 for assistance.’

I saw this notice hundreds of times. But just didn’t get the chance to check how good their service was because it was so embarrasing a Chinese asks for translation help in front of a Chinese driver! Read More…

XTM - Automated Currency Exchange Teller Machine in Shanghai

When  I was waiting for Kenny in the Lobby of Sofitel Hotel in East Nanjing Road, I saw this machine. It looks like a normal ATM, but with the Currency Exchange sign on it.

Yes, it is an Auto currency Exchange teller machine. I had a little play on it. The menu was available in 3 languages: Chinese, English and Japanese. The machine can help check the exchange rate. And I checked the rate and found it was actually better than those provided by Sofitel. Read More…

The Bund Still Closed during the National Holiday 2009 in Shanghai

This is a rather disappointing news for many people who are going to travel to Shanghai during their National Holiday (1-8 Oct).

The Bund authority has confirmed that the Bund will still be closed to the visitors during the National Holiday due to the renovation project construction. The main concern for this decision is safety issues as they are afraid that large crowds on the Bund which is still in the process of the construction will cause serious problems.

However the news reported that the Bund will be beautifully lighted up during the Golden Week. Read More…

Jack, one of my customers flew to Shanghai from London for an important meeting. Because his flight landed much earlier than expected, he chose to go to the hotel counter (the hotel he will stay in Shanghai) inside Pudong Airport for a Limo.

No problem,  everything was fine, he got the service. He arrived at the hotel and paid 500RMB to the driver and got the receipt UNTIL…
