Today when I was passing the bund, I saw the main construction has been completed, although the Bund area is still blocked for visitors.

The Bund Still Closed during the National Holiday 2009 in Shanghai Friday, September 4th, 2009

This is a rather disappointing news for many people who are going to travel to Shanghai during their National Holiday (1-8 Oct).

The Bund authority has confirmed that the Bund will still be closed to the visitors during the National Holiday due to the renovation project construction. The main concern for this decision is safety issues as they are afraid that large crowds on the Bund which is still in the process of the construction will cause serious problems.

However the news reported that the Bund will be beautifully lighted up during the Golden Week. Read More…

Shanghai Bund Tourist Sightseeing Tunnel - a tourist trap? Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

I met my long time not to see friends, Keith and Graeme from England on their second day in Shanghai. When I asked them what they have done in Shanghai in the last couple of days, they answered: well, we went to the Bund of course and the Bund tourist tunnel.

Hoo: But the Bund was closed.
K&G: Yeah, we knew it when we arrived.
Hoo: So how was the tunnel?
K&G: Well, Okay, it is just a tunnel where you see almost nothing

I’ve never been to the Bund sightseeing tunnel but I heard these kind of comments millions of times. Overpriced, nothing but lights, tourist trap etc. But why tourists keep going there? Read More…

The Bund still under renovation Sunday, July 12th, 2009

Last Sunday, I passed by the Bund, a top must-see place in Shanghai.  It is still under renovation.  Tourists have to stop at the end of East Nanjing road which is a famous pedestrian street in Shanghai. Now they only could take photos in front of a decorated construction wall.  Personally, I really think it is a bad time to visit the Bund now.

Here are some photos about the current Bund under construction.  I guess after renovation, the Bund will be a totally different impression. Read More…

The Bund is now closed to tourists Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

Today I was walking towards the bund from East Nanjing Road and surprised to find a notice board saying the bund is closed for reconstruction.

What I saw behind the road block was damaged road surface of the side walk along the Huangpu river.

Then I checked the local news and found the the sightseeing side walk between Huang Pu Park and Fu Zhou Road is closed for the Bund reconstruction project for 2010 Expo. The closed side walk was the best view point of the Bund and Lujiazui. Read More…

The Bund in Shanghai Saturday, May 9th, 2009

The Bund is a street of old colonial-era buildings and the first attraction for many visitors or travellers.

The Bund runs along the west bank of the Huangpu River, where the Puxi Area is seated, and the opposite side is a cluster of Pudong’s skyscrapers. That gives you a strong contrast between modern life in Pudong and the past in the Bund. Read More…
