If you go to any city in China, it is very likely that you can find a hotel named after the name of the city. For example, Beijing has Beijing Hotel, Hangzhou has Hangzhou Hotel. And these hotels usually have those typical ’state owned’ characteristics such as government influence,  central location, weird services etc. Read More…

Shanghai Peace Hotel under Remodel Saturday, July 18th, 2009

Shanghai peace hotel is the nearest hotel to the Bund of Shanghai.  And most tourists prefer to stay at peace hotel when visiting to Shanghai. It is located at the end of East Nanjing Road to link with the Bund. We only have at most 5 minutes walking distance to the Bund from hotel. It is a deserved stay during Shanghai summer season and guests could breezily enjoy night-view of Pudong — the opposite financial block of Huangpu River. But this year is an exception.    Read More…

Radisson Hotel Shanghai New World - A five-star stay? Friday, July 17th, 2009

Radisson Hotel Shanghai New World is not far from East Nanjing Road, a well-known pedestrian shopping street in Shanghai.  And hotel guests could easily access the Bund of Shanghai and People’s Square as well. Even it is a five-star hotel, but I think its facility is not what I expect.  TV box is ugly and out-of-date, toiletories are local brand that most foreign guests never heard about, and Superior room is a little small to accommodate one couple perfectly. I guess hotel’s popularity is more likely dependent on the shopping street and the Bund nearby. By the way, it is almost located at the city center of Shanghai.

Here are photos of  a Superior room I stayed in other day. It costs me about 1,100RMB per night plus one international breakfast.   Read More…

Last week, I arranged one airport pickup service to my guest from US. It costs 600RMB to cover trip. Price is a little bit expensive though, but I think it is a comfortable and reliable solution and I prefer to use service done by hotel.

Generally, I believe  many companies or hotels will provide pickup services to different groups of tourists in Shanghai.  You could find different tiers based on your budget. Here is my quotation got from Radisson Hotel Shanghai New World. Read More…

Shanghai Park Hotel Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

When Geoff from London told me he stays in Park Hotel this time, it took me a while to figure out where the Park Hotel is in Shanghai. Finally I found Park Hotel is the hotel which in Chinese we call International Hotel.

I’ve never been to Park Hotel before although I heard so many stories about it, it used to be the tallest building Far East, Zero Center Point of Shanghai etc.

Overlooking People’s Square, the old dark tiles of Park Hotel stands itself out from the tall modern new buildings. The building itself tells remarkable history of this hotel as well as the city. Read More…
