Traditional Vegetarian Restaurants in Shanghai Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Sarah from England is visiting Shanghai this week. She is a vegetarian, so I took her to Gong De Lin, a well known Chinese vegetarian restaurant with long history.

We ordered a few dishes which are the restaurant specialities and interestingly they all have meaty names, for example, vege sweet and sour pork, vege fish etc. To me, it was a bit weird that coming to a vegetarian restaurant for fake meat food.

When all the dishes were brought on the table, I was amazed by the chef’s creativity because all the vege dishes looked and tasted very much like the real meat or fish. Read More…

Xian Qiang Fang - a place to taste old Shanghai in East Nanjing Road Monday, July 27th, 2009

When Linda told me she found a really nice Shanghai restaurant in Jiujiang Road, which is next to East Nanjing Road, I was wondering which one she refered to because for me restaurants in East Nanjing Road are usually lack of originality and characters. Restaurants in Nanjing Road are usually for tourists only which means they are either overpriced or chain restaurants like anywhere else. We got Hooters in Shanghai Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Hooters is an American restaurant chain which targets male customers with waitress just one step beyond those strippers, but in quite healthy and sporty way.

In Shanghai, we got Hooters too. It has been several years already.

I have never got a chance to enjoy food there though I passed by several times.  Yesterday I went to Oritental Pearl Tower again, and captured a couple of photos from outside of Hooters.  Definitely one day I will be there and share more with audience.  It is said girls are average but hot, and Chinese ladies may feel uncomfortable. Then I will see.
