There are some food shops in those international communities in Shanghai, such as Gubei, Green City, Hongqiao etc. Those shops usually have very strong country identity depends on the countries/regions the owner from.  The shop owners are usually people from other countries who currently live in Shanghai. Some of them opened the food shop because they found it was difficult to get their home town food in Shanghai when they first came to Shanghai. Shanghai Fake Designer Bag Stores Friday, July 24th, 2009

An interesting news today: The owner of a fake designer bag store in Shanghai was finally fined 500,000RMB for selling fake designer bags such as LOUIS VUITTON, Gucci, Hermes etc. How the store was caught? Last year, Celine Dion was in Shanghai for her concert. In her extremely intensive programe, she squeezed one and half hours to shop in this store and came out with 19 bags. Photos of Celine and the bags were caught by the camera and then on the paper. Shopping in wet markets @ Shanghai Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Most foreigners in Shanghai once found shopping in wet markets daunting.  I checked with many  expat friends around me about shopping in wet market. And most of them feel entering the market was intimidating. I think major reasons are:

They could barely speak a few sentences of Chinese, and haven’t any clue what price things should be and how to bargain with vendors.
