Shanghai After the Heaviest Rain in 70 Years Friday, July 31st, 2009

It seems that Shanghai experienced some extreme weather in history, 40 degrees hottest day and then the heaviest rain in 70 years on last Thursday.

The rain started around lunch time. Many people were stopped indoors including myself. It was absolutely pouring, but fortunately it lasted about 2 hours. The heavy rain caused flood in some parts of the city affecting people’s living and the traffic. The only good thing was I saw the beautiful rainbow in Shanghai for the very first time after living here for 5 years. Read More…

40 Degrees! Hottest Day in Shanghai in 60 years Monday, July 20th, 2009

Hot, hot, hot…. that’s all I want to say today! And yes, today is the hottest day ever in 60 years in Shanghai, record high 40 degrees.

The sky was clear, the sun was shining all day. Although I could feel the wind, it was like standing in front of a hot oven! Completely roasted!

It is even worse that so many people catch cold.  Office is usually very cool because of the air conditioning. Some offices even set the temperature as low as 20 degrees. Imagine, you get out of the building where is 20 degrees and immediately into a 40 degree oven. I even got the goose bumps when I did that. Read More…

Scorching hot weather hits in Shanghai? Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Today I got serveral messages from friends who complained what scorching hot and sweating weather in Shanghai. Yeah I checked outside with my temperature meter at noon, and it is around 37 degree.

However, today we got a breeze outside Pudong as well and I think it is still manageable compared to “Great Heat” days which are about 40 degree or above. Read More…

The Wet Season is about to start in Shanghai Saturday, June 13th, 2009

If you live in Shanghai, you probably feel the same with me during the last week: wet, hot and uncomfortable.

I was asked by some friends if the wet season (Plum Rain Season) has started in Shanghai.

Normally the wet season in Shanghai is between June and July.  But according to my own experiences, the real wet season hasn’t arrived in Shanghai yet at this moment as it was not hot enough.  But I guess it is on its way now and probably we can all feel the real wet season in a week time. What’s the summer like in Shanghai? Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Denise told me she is planning a trip to Shanghai in July from Edinburgh and asked what the weather would be like at that time.

I guess my answer must shock her because I said: No, please don’t come to Shanghai in July.

Personally I don’t like the summer in Shanghai simply because it is too hot especially in July.

Spring in Shanghai seems become shorter and shorter every year. The news said this year in Shanghai summer officially started from early May, but to be honest, the temperature is still bearable and at least it is very cool during the night.

I personally feel the real summer in Shanghai actually starts from June. In the late June, the weather becomes even worse because it is the Monsoon season in Shanghai. It is very wet, humid and hot. It makes you feel extremely uncomfortable and feel like being steamed all the time. The low pressure makes people feel extremely stressed and anxiety. Read More…

What’s the best time to visit Shanghai? Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

This is the question often asked by my friends. My personal suggestion is Spring (April) and Autumn (October - November). During these two seasons, it is always dry in Shanghai and the temperature is moderate and most feel pleasant.

Traditionally people will think spring starts from March in Shanghai. But I found before the 5th April which is the Tomb Sweeping public holiday in China, the weather can be very chilly sometimes. But after 5th April, it becomes clearly warmer and the day time becomes longer. It usually gets dark after 5:30pm. Read More…

Summer is coming in Shanghai Monday, May 11th, 2009

After the sun is shining for a week, today the temperature in Shanghai reached 35 degree. It is the hottest day since May 2009.  And it could be the earliest summer ever in the last 70 years!

The good thing of the hot weather is:  streets are packed with hot and sexy Shanghai girls! It is a good season to know how beauty Shanghai girls will be.
